Dr. Furlong is a magician. I could not recommend the Refractive Lens Exchange surgery more – it is life changing. I don’t know how Dr. Furlong does it, but he’s brilliant…just brilliant.
I was severely near-sighted and had worn glasses since I was in the second grade. In fact, without my glasses or contacts, I was legally blind. My sight, or lack thereof, has always been a handicap to me. It sounds like a harsh characterization but it’s true and here’s why.
I love adventure whether it’s trail running, hiking, beach volleyball, whitewater rafting in the Grand Canyon or battling it out on Survivor: Pearl Islands and Survivor: Cambodia Second Chance. My vision had negatively impacted all of these incredible activities. This procedure didn’t greatly exceed my expectation – it blew it out of the water!

I’m writing this review to thank and commend Dr. Furlong and his professional and friendly staff. My vision is now restored to more perfect than I could have ever imagined possible. I now have 20/15 vision in both eyes. During the years leading up to my surgery I started wearing reading glasses. In my fifties the glasses got stronger. Then I noticed a blurring in my left eye. It was a cataract, and my glasses could not correct it. It was beginning to affect my lifestyle and quality of life. I enjoy a lifestyle of many outdoor sports and activities, one of which is rock and mountain climbing. The cataract was affecting my depth perception. I had to do something. Sally, 70 years young, is a Refractive Lens Exchange patient. She competed in the 2011 California Masters Women’s Crossfit Games in the 60 and older division as one of the top 20 performers following the preliminary worldwide competition! She has a 240-pound deadlift and a 185-pound back squat. I had been wearing glasses and hard contacts for over 15 years when I decided to seriously consider getting corrective eye surgery. I’m an active person and love to travel so wearing contacts (or glasses at night) was sometimes a challenge or hindrance. I also missed being able to just wake up in the morning and see. I was given Dr. Furlong’s name and after doing some research I made the initial appointment and went through the process. After much discussion and more research I decided to get Implantable Collamer Lens (ICL) surgery since I wasn’t a candidate for LASIK. Since I have an astigmatism I’ll need to get a PRK touch-up but otherwise the results have been great! Dr. Furlong and his staff were great to work with and I love the fact that I can see when I wake up now and don’t have to carry around glasses/contacts while traveling! You really do get the best care with Dr. Furlong and I’d highly recommend him and his staff to anyone looking to have ICL surgery!
